The AEW Dynamite event witnessed one of the most gruelling match between Jon Moxley and Cope. One of the most vicious moments of the match came when Cope suplexed Moxley directly onto a spiked bat, driving the sharp spikes deep into Moxley’s back. The pain was excruciating as Moxley screamed in agony. Wheeler Yuta rushed in to help, attempting to remove the bat, but it was stuck in Moxley’s bleeding back.
Jon Moxley retains title
Jon Moxley successfully retained the AEW World Championship by defeating Cope, however the match ended in a highly controversial fashion. Christian Cage made a surprise appearance, cashing in his title shot and joining the fray. However, Moxley managed to choke him out, securing his victory.
The grueling battle involved numerous AEW stars, including Nick Wayne, Claudio Castagnoli, FTR, Marina Shafir, Willow Nightingale, and Kip Sabian, Moxley eventually choked out Cope to win the match. Moxley now turns his focus to AEW Dynasty, where he will defend his title against Swerve Strickland.
Strickland defeated Ricochet in a number one contender’s match at Revolution earlier this month to earn the title shot.
Following the defeat Cope would seem to be exiting the World title scene, and into a story with his boys in FTR after Harwood refused to help him up and even shoved his partner while leaving.
