Rio de Janeiro, October 1 (Hindustan Reporter) Former Brazil head coach Titeko was sacked by Brazilian Serie A club Flamengo on Monday. The 63-year-old will be replaced by former Atletico Madrid, Chelsea and Flamengo defender Filipe Luis at the end of the year, the club said in a statement.
The announcement came less than a day after Flamengo’s 1-0 home win over Athletico Paranaense in Brazil’s Serie A championship. Last Thursday, Flamengo was knocked out of the Copa Libertadores – South America’s top club competition – at the quarter-final stage by Uruguay’s Peñarol.
Flamengo are currently fourth in the 20-team Brazilian Serie A standings, and nine points behind leaders Botafogo with 10 games remaining in the season.
Tite, who was Brazil manager from 2016 to 2022, has led Flamengo to 41 wins, 13 draws and 16 losses since his appointment in October last year.
