Kanyakumari: India’s first glass bridge was inaugurated by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin on Monday evening. The 77-meter-long and 10-metre-wide bridge connects the Vivekananda Rock Memorial and the 133-foot-high Thiruvalluvar statue off the coast of Kanyakumari.

The bridge offers tourists an enchanting view of the monuments of the two savants and the sea around them. “It provides a thrilling experience of walking above the sea,” a tourist official said as reported by PTI.

Stalin shared the video of the bowstring bridge on his official X account. “Opening of the glass fiber bridge built in the middle of the sea to connect the Ayyan Valluvar statue with the Vivekananda Rock,” the Tamil Nadu CM said in his X post. Other Tamil Nadu ministers, including Udayanidhi Stalin, also attended the ceremony. MP Kanimozhi and senior officials were also present at the inauguration.

MK Stalin’s Tweet:

About The Bridge:

The glass bridge is 77 metres (252 feet) in length and 10 metres in width. It was inaugurated coinciding with the silver jubilee of the unveiling of the Thiruvalluvar statue by late Chief Minister M Karunanidhi.

The Rs 37-crore project was undertaken by the Tamil Nadu government.

The bridge is like a bowstring arch. It has been designed to withstand the saline breeze. It will be the latest attraction at the Land’s End.

It connects two iconic landmarks- the Vivekananda Rock Memorial and the 133-foot-tall Thiruvalluvar statue – in the region.

It reduces travel time between two iconic monuments for tourists and provides scenic views. Earlier, tourists used to take a ferry to travel between the two monuments. However, no they can just walk.
