New Year is going to be welcomed in North India with severe cold and cold wave. There is a possibility of a sharp drop in the minimum temperature in the entire northern region including the capital Delhi. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), heavy rains towards the end of the year may further increase the intensity of winter.

Temperature will drop due to rain

The temperature is expected to drop by 3-5 degrees Celsius in the next two days due to the ongoing intermittent rains in many parts of northwest India. West and Central India may also see a similar drop in temperatures, while East India may see a drop of 2-4 degrees Celsius.

There is a possibility of severe cold wave conditions in Himachal Pradesh on 30 and 31 December. Apart from this, severe cold will continue in parts of Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh, Jammu-Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad and Rajasthan in the first week of January.

Snowfall became a cause of trouble

Srinagar-Jammu National Highway has been closed due to heavy snowfall in Kashmir, leaving hundreds of tourists and travelers stranded. Life has been affected due to disruption of flights and rail services. The first snowfall of this season in Srinagar and other plains has covered the entire area in a white blanket.

Double effect of fog and cold wave

The Meteorological Department has predicted dense to very dense fog in parts of Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan between December 28 and 30. Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal will also see the effect of dense fog by the beginning of January. This severe form of cold has not only increased the chill but has also made life difficult for common people.

In such a situation, starting the New Year by staying at home with warm clothes and heater would be the safest and best option.
