Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Bhopal Memorial Hospital and Research Centre (BMHRC) will soon have an eye bank and facility for cornea transplant surgery. The hospital has received approval to start eye bank and cornea transplant surgery.

With this, BMHRC has become the third government hospital in Bhopal after AIIMS and Hamidia Hospital, where eye bank and cornea transplant facilities will be available. The phone number for eye bank at BMHRC is 0755 – 2920132.

BMHRC director incharge Dr Manisha Srivastava said, “Launch of services like eye donation and cornea transplant will bring a new hope in the lives of our patients. BMHRC is planning to launch a comprehensive awareness campaign regarding cornea donation and transplant soon. Under this campaign, seminars, workshops and other activities will be organised to highlight the importance of eye donation in the society. Along with this, we will ensure that the best services are provided to patients along with our team of expert doctors.”

Dr Hemlata Yadav, head of ophthalmology department at BMHRC, said, “We have already prepared a list of needy patients. Any needy blind person can vists ophthalmology department of BMHRC, get his examination done and register his name.”

Dr Manisha Srivastava said that the vision of two blind persons could be restored with cornea donation. Eye Bank and Cornea Transplant Center play an important role. Eye Bank works to preserve the cornea obtained through eye donation and prepare it for transplantation. Cornea transplant helps blind people regain their lost vision. This facility is a boon for patients who have become blind due to an accident, infection or disease.
