Mumbai: One of the most crucial premonsoon activity in Mumbai is trimming or cutting of weakened trees/branches in order to minimise tree falls during heavy rains. This year, the BMC has decided to post the schedule of tree trimming in every ward office and on it’s social media handles in advance. The activity is set to start from April 21.
The display schedule of tree trimming in advance, will keep citizens informed but they can rearrange the vehicle in the area where tree trimming is scheduled. Often times, the BMC staff reaches site for tree trimming, however, the vehicles parked on the road prevents them to do their jobs and causes delays in the works too. While, the vehicles not only pose as obstructions while tree branches trimming, but there are chances of vehicles getting damaged.
The advance display of schedule by the garden department will prove helpful for citizens as well as BMC to complete its job on time.
Mumbai has around 29.75 lakh trees. However, after spring season several tree branches get weakened. Such weak branches have high chances of collapsing during winds and rainfall in the monsoon season. Thus, in April end every year, BMC’s Garden department starts the work of tree trimming, with a scientific approach to not harm the tree’s growth.
