Mumbai: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has announced the opening of the online admission process for Mumbai Public Schools for the academic year 2025-2026. The process will commence on January 1 and will remain open until January.

These schools offer education under the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE), International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE), and International Baccalaureate (IB) curricula, ensuring access to high-quality education for students across the city.

The initiative includes a total of 21 schools: 18 offering the CBSE curriculum, one following the ICSE curriculum, one offering the IGCSE curriculum, and one following the IB curriculum. Importantly, all schools run by the municipal corporation will provide free education to ensure equitable opportunities for children from all the diverse socio-economic backgrounds.

BMC has emphasised the advanced infrastructure of its schools, which include digital and virtual classrooms, computer and tablet laboratories, fully equipped science laboratories, libraries, playgrounds, and facilities for sports and cultural activities.

Some parents raised concerns about the free education for all scheme not expanding to the students of the state board schools run by the municipal corporation.

“What is the harm in extending the free education scheme and providing equal facilities in SSC board schools? When I studied in a BMC school years ago, there were no facilities provided to us and even today facilities provided by the BMC in SSC board schools remain dismal. That’s why we decided to send our children to a different board,” complained a parent whose two wards go to CBSE schools run by BMC.
