Mumbai: The P-North ward of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) which consists areas of Malad, Madh and Kurar, has identified around 123 properties which are built forging maps. The ward office this month so far has already demolished 24 such unauthorised structures, and notices for remaining have been sent, said Assistant Municipal Commissioner of P-North ward, Kundan Valvi.
Valvi said the ward has high number of properties compared to other civic wards in Mumbai, specially the bunglows which are used forging maps. “Most of such structures are in Madh, Kurar area and the BMC aims to take actions against all unauthorised structures. Considering the scenic beauty, the owners use extended areas. Many of the bunglows are used for film and serial shootings. We have sent show-cause notices to the owners,” the ward officer said.

On May 17, The Free Press Journal had reported that in a crackdown on unauthorised constructions in Malad’s Madh area, the BMC has issued a show cause notice to Bollywood actor and BJP leader Mithun Chakraborty for allegedly building an illegal ground-floor structure on a plot in Erangle village. The notice directs him to justify the alterations, failing which the structure will be demolished at his own risk, with the civic body also warning of possible prosecution.
Under Section 475A of the Mumbai Municipal Corporation Act, such violations attract penalties and imprisonment.

One of the bunglow demolished was used for shooting of a famous Marathi serial, Tujhi Majhi Jamli Jodi. The shooting was going on for over a year and the owner has been issued showcase notice from the BMC for building the structure which was not as per the map.
