Mumbai: A day after the BMC demolished five unauthorised buildings in Versova and nine illegal bungalows in Madh, the civic body continued its action in the R Central ward. On Saturday, an unauthorised wedding hall, covering approximately 20,000 sq ft, was demolished by the civic team in Borivali West. The action was taken immediately after the concerned party lost the case in the city civil court on Friday.
Sandhya Nandedkar, Assistant Municipal Commissioner of R Central, stated, “Permission was granted to construct a mandap and a temporary shed to K. Divine Lawns and Convention for six months last year. In January this year, we informed them to remove the structure as the period had ended. However, they approached the city civil court. The court ruled in BMC’s favor on Friday, after which we immediately initiated action on Saturday.”
The demolition operation was carried out with the assistance of two poclains, five JCBs, one fire engine, 15 engineers, 50 laborers, and local police. On Friday, the BMC demolished nine unauthorised constructions in the Erangal and Walnai areas in Madh, ranging from 200 sq ft to 2,500 sq ft.
These demolitions are part of a drive targeting structures built using fraudulent Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) maps. According to civic officials, the P-North ward office is leading this effort, and a total of 101 illegal constructions related to this case are set to be demolished by the end of May.
