Chennai: BJP Tamil Nadu president K Annamalai on Thursday removed his shoes and vowed not to wear footwear until the DMK is ousted from power in the State.

Annamalai, who removed his shoes at the end of a media conference in Coimbatore, also said he would whip himself six times in front of his house at 10 am on Friday. He made these remarks after condemning the sexual assault on an engineering college girl studying at the reputable Anna University in Chennai.

“Starting tomorrow (Friday) I will fast for 48 days and also visit the Arupadai Veedu (six abodes of Lord Muruga – known as Karthikeya in Hindu speaking States). Until the DMK is ousted from power, I will not wear footwear. There must be an end to this,” he said animatedly.

He criticised the State Government for stating that the CCTV cameras were not functional at the place in Anna University where the student was sexually assaulted. He also criticised the police for the manner in which the FIR in the case was registered seeking to blame the girl for being in the private company of her boyfriend and for revealing her identity.
