Telangana DGP: C V Anand and B Shivadhar Reddy emerged frontrunners
The two senior IPS officers – C V Anand and B Shivadhar Reddy have emerged as the frontrunners for the post of Director General of Police (DGP) in Telangana. The post is falling vacant in a few weeks. Presently, Anand is the Hyderabad Police Commissioner while Reddy is Director General (Intelligence). Anand is due to retire in June 2028, while Shivadhar Reddy’s retirement is scheduled for April 2026. The names of these officers were included in the list, sent by the Government to the UPSC. The other names in the list are Ravi Gupta, Jitender, Shikha Goel, Soumya Mishra, and K Sreenivasa Reddy. Special Chief Secretary (Home) Ravi Gupta, the senior-most officer among the contenders, had served as in-charge DGP from December 2023 to July 2024. The UPSC will now evaluate the list based on different parameters like service record, seniority, tenure, and pending years of service. It will then recommend a panel of three officers to the Telangana Government, from which the final selection will be made.
Karnataka: New DGP by end of this month, five officers in fray
The Karnataka Government has extended the tenure of Director General and Inspector General of Police (DGP-IGP) Dr. Alok Mohan until May 21. With just over three weeks left in Mohan’s extended term to end, the Government has started the process to search for a new DGP. The state Government has sent a list of eligible senior IPS officers to the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) and the Ministry of Home Affairs for consideration. The list includes five Director General of Police (DGP) rank officers – Prashanth Kumar Thakur, M A Saleem, K. Ramachandra Rao, Malini Krishnamurthy, Pronab Mohanty and two Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) rank officers Alok Kumar and B. Dayananda. These officers of state cadre have completed a total of 30 years of service. The Government expects the selection process to be completed by May 21.

Sameer Kumar khare has joined as Chairman of the National Shipping Board in Delhi. He is former 1989 batch IAS officer of Assam-Meghalaya cadre.

LG Pratik Sharma joins as General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Northern Command
Lieutenant General Pratik Sharma has taken over the charge as General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (GOC-in-C), Northern Command. A highly decorated officer, Lieutenant General Pratik Sharma is an alumnus of NDA, Khadakwasla, Indian Military Academy, Dehradun and Defence Services Staff College, Wellington. He was commissioned into the MADRAS Regiment in December 1987.
