Mumbai: The city unit of the BJP under the leadership of its president and cabinet minister Ashish Shelar is all set to celebrate Maharashtra Day and Labour Day on May 1 with great fervour, with a series of events lined up across 106 locations in the city. With the BMC elections not far away, the party is keen on mobilising support among Marathi-speaking population and the working class.
As part of its recent organizational revamp, the party has restructured its mandals — where earlier there was one mandal, now three new mandals have been formed and appointed new office bearers accordingly. By giving young karyakartas greater responsibilities, the BJP has infused fresh energy and dynamism into the organization. The mandal is the basic unit of the party organisation.
Shelar recently convened a meeting of newly appointed mandal and ward presidents and directed them to actively organize Maharashtra Day programs across the city.
As per the plan, tributes will be paid to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj at 106 locations across Mumbai. The celebrations will come alive with vibrant dhol-tasha performances in public squares, while select venues will feature cultural showcases such as ‘Powadas’ and ‘Shaheeri’ honoring the Maratha warrior Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Also, some mandals will host puja and community service initiatives to mark the occasion.
