Pune: BJP MP Dr Medha Kulkarni Paints Green Patch On Wall To Saffron And Places Ganesha Idol |
BJP MP Medha Kulkarni has sparked a controversy in Pune after painting a green patch on a wall near the Jnana Prabodhini Prashala (School) in Sadashiv Peth saffron and placing a Ganesha idol and flowers there. A video of the incident has gone viral on social media, leading to mixed reactions.
The incident took place on Saturday when Kulkarni, along with her supporters, painted a patch on a wall that was previously green. Afterward, a Ganesha idol and flowers were placed on the wall, and a puja was performed.
The video of the incident, showing the wall being painted saffron and the worship ceremony, spread quickly on social media, with some praising her action while others criticized it.
Be Responsible Hindus: Kulkarni
In a Facebook post, Kulkarni defended her actions, stating that she had been informed about the green-painted wall and the worship that had been performed there. She further appealed to the people to be more conscious of such activities happening around them and to take action as “responsible Hindus.”
“Hum bhagwa dhari hai, Hum Shriram Pujari hai. Yesterday, a WhatsApp message went viral stating that the street next to the Jana Prabodhini School in Sadashiv Peth was painted green, and garlands, flowers, and incense sticks were placed for worship. I visited the place today to check it out. I first confirmed it, and then, along with Sangram Dhole Patil, Sanket Mehandale, Yashpal Jadhav, and Datere, it was a fun experience to paint saffron on the green wall. This kind of activity is not only increasing in Pune city but also in many other places across Maharashtra. Places that were once small are suddenly being occupied. We must remain vigilant. I have only one request to everyone: as conscious Hindus, let us pay attention to what is happening around us and take action when necessary. If required, please let us know. My phone number is 9422037306.”
The incident has triggered political reactions, with opposition parties criticizing Kulkarni’s actions, while some of her supporters have expressed backing.
