Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): The tone of the BJP leaders over the caste census has changed after the government’s decision to do it.
The BJP leaders, who were speaking against the caste census, began to defend their party’s stand over the issue.
The ruling party leaders used to say that the caste census would divide the country.
Now, the same leaders are saying Prime Minister Narendra Modi has decided to do caste census for the country’s welfare.
BJP leaders also wrote posts on social media against caste census. BJP legislator from Huzur Rameshwar Sharma wrote a post on social media on Pahalgam incident that “Jaati nahin dharma puchch kar mara gaya tha (terrorists wanted to know the religion of the tourists before killing them not their caste). The same Sharma is talking in favour of the caste census.
Sharma said Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s decision to do caste census was a historic step.
From its official ex-handle, the Chhattisgarh unit of the BJP wrote before killing tourists in Pahalgam the terrorists had asked their religion of their victims not their caste.
The BJP leaders opposed the demand for the caste census before the Lok Sabha election.
They also said there were only four castes in the country according to the Prime Minister. They are the poor, farmers, youths and women.
The party leaders said the BJP believed in four castes. Nevertheless, after the centre’s decision to do caste census, the BJP leaders have taken a U-turn over the issue.
On the pattern of Modi and UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the BJP leaders began to say, “Batenge to katenge (divided we fall).”
The centre’s decision to do the caste census has forced the BJP leaders to talk about its benefits.
It is Rahul Gandhi’s victory says Congress
The Congress has said the Centre’s decision to do the caste census is Rahul Gandhi’s victory.
MPCC president Jitu Patwari said Rahul Gandhi would come to Bhopal next month to participate in a meeting on the caste census.
The Congress will launch a campaign to raise awareness among the people about the importance of caste census, he said.
In the past 11 years, Rahul Gandhi has spoken two lakh times for caste census, Patwari said.
The BJP used to give different statements, he said.
Narendra Modi, Yogi Adityanath, Nitin Gadkari, Shivraj Singh Chouhan and many other leaders opposed caste census in their statements.
Rahul Gandhi has forced the Modi-led government to bow down to his demands, Patwari said.
