BMC drainage cleaning drive ahead of monsoon
Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Sunday launched a citywide drainage cleaning drive in preparation for the early arrival of the monsoon, as predicted by the meteorological department.
Minister Vishvas Sarang inspected the drainage system at Prabhat Square on Sunday morning and asked BMC officials to ensure all city drains were cleaned promptly. He emphasised on the use of machines for the cleaning process and called for a public awareness campaign to discourage people from dumping garbage in drains.
Minister Sarang told media persons that clogged drains were a major cause of overflow during heavy rains. To tackle this, he proposed setting up dumping stations near major drains to prevent waste from entering directly. He also stressed the need to educate residents about proper waste disposal.
The minister assured that the campaign, which began Sunday, would continue on a war footing to prevent water logging and overflow during monsoon season.
