Jawahar, 42, was a resident of Mundlana mandal in Sonepat district, and also the village `Nambardar’ (a village headman responsible for land revenue collection and maintaining land records) of the village.

According to police, the deceased was near his house when his neighbour, identified as Manu, allegedly shot at him. However, Nambardar ran to a nearby shop to save himself but the neighbour ran after him and again fired three bullets at him inside the shop, killing him on the spot.

Stating that the accused had been arrested, the police said that a land dispute was said to be the reason behind his murder.

According to information, Nambardar was earlier with Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) but had later joined BJP which also appointed him as the Panchayati Raj wing of the party in 2021.
