The BJP on Thursday issued a whip to all its Lok Sabha MPs, directing them to be present in the House tomorrow for the budget’s passage. The Lok Sabha is set to apply the guillotine procedure tomorrow, reported ANI.

“All BJP members in Lok Sabha are hereby informed that guillotining of various demands for Grants 2025-26 will be taken up for passing in the House on Friday. All members of BJP in Lok Sabha are, therefore, requested to be positively present in the House throughout the day and support the government’s stands,” the party said in its letter.

What is a guillotine

A guillotine is a parliamentary procedure used to expedite the passage of a bill without permitting further discussion, as per reports. The government employs this tactic when it seeks to pass a bill swiftly, especially when opposition hinders progress.

Notably, the second part of the budget session of Parliament began on March 10 and will continue till April 4.

Both the houses of Parliament faced multiple adjournments on Thursday as DMK and opposition members protested against the Centre’s proposed delimitation exercise. Both houses experienced significant disruptions throughout the day.

The Lok Sabha was adjourned several times – initially until noon, then until 2 pm, before finally being adjourned for the entire day. The Rajya Sabha followed a similar pattern, with adjournments at 12 noon, 12:15 pm, 2 pm, and ultimately for the remainder of the day.

During these interruptions, Speaker Om Birla reminded members that the Lok Sabha must operate according to established procedures and maintain proper decorum. He specifically objected to MPs wearing T-shirts during sessions and directed their attention to Rule 349 of the procedural rulebook. Birla expressed strong disapproval of certain members’ conduct, stating that behavior undermining the House’s dignity would not be permitted.
