Assembly elections will be held in Tamil Nadu in 2026. Its winds have started flowing from now and party construction work has also started. The BJP has not yet achieved success in South India, especially Tamil Nadu and Kerala. Therefore, the party has prepared a new strategy and appointed a new president. The post of state president has been handed over to Nayanar Nagendran. He has again extended the hand of friendship to the BJP’s old ally AIADMK.

Nayanar Nagantharan joined BJP in 2017. Recently he was present on stage during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Rameswaram. Since then, there was a discussion that he could handle the BJP’s ‘Dakshin Mission’ reins and finally was confirmed on Friday. Nayanar Nagendran today filed his nomination for the post of BJP state president. He was the only candidate to reach the state headquarters ‘Kamalayam’ of BJP in T. Nagar and file his nomination papers. Since no other nomination papers were filed, Nagendran was elected unopposed president.

Nayanar Tirunelveli MLA

Nayanar Nagendran is a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA from Tirunelveli constituency in Tamil Nadu. He was currently the state vice president of BJP. Earlier Nagendran All India Anna Dravid was in Munnetra Kazhagam (AIDMK). BJP’s current state president K.K. Annamalai, Union Minister L.K. Murugan, former Union Minister P. Radhakrishnan and BJP MLA and Mahila Morcha President Vanthi Srinivasan proposed the name of Nanar Nagendran for the post of president.

Annamalai likely to get national level responsibility

What will happen to senior leader and super coop Annamalai, who are still leading the party in the state? But Amit Shah, who reached Chennai, clarified the position of the picture. He has indicated by tweeting that Annamalai will be given responsibility at the national level in the party organization. Therefore, there is a possibility that she will become active in national politics.

The BJP’s relationship with the AIADMK in Tamil Nadu is very old. However, the experiences between the two have been sour-sweet. During the tenure of Atal Bihari Vajpayee, the friendship between the two parties had reached its peak and at the same time the distance between them also became clear. In 1998, a coalition was formed under the leadership of Jayalalithaa. At one time this alliance won 30 seats out of 39 Lok Sabha seats.

There was a discussion of friendship between AIADMK and BJP in Tamil Nadu for a few days. On March 25 last month, party general secretary E Palaniswami went to Delhi and met Home Minister Amit Shah. Party MP M. Thambidurai was also with him. According to sources, an alliance was prepared in Tamil Nadu in this meeting. Amit Shah made a formal announcement on Friday.

Bitterness in friendship before 2023 Lok Sabha elections

The 2021 assembly elections were contested by BJP and AIADMK. The BJP won 4 seats. After Annamalai became the BJP state president, bitterness between the two parties started increasing. The friendship ended on 21 September 2023. Both parties contested the 2024 Lok Sabha elections independently and suffered a major setback. Learning from this, both parties have joined hands. The BJP has tried to make AIADMK comfortable by removing Annamalai from Tamil Nadu and giving him a national role.
