The 51st Annual Conference of the Research Society of BJ Medical College was held on April 3 and 4. The event aimed to foster research enthusiasm among doctors. Pre-conference workshops took place on April 2.
This year’s theme was “Lifestyle Diseases: Empower, Prevent and Treat.” The conference was inaugurated by Chief Guest Dr Abhijat Sheth, President of the National Board of Examinations, New Delhi. Padma Shri awardee Dr Omesh Bharti, State Epidemiologist from Shimla, was the Guest of Honour. The event saw participation from over 1,250 esteemed professionals, researchers and resident doctors from medical colleges and hospitals across Pune and various parts of India.
Dean Dr Eknath Pawar said, “Lifestyle diseases such as diabetes, cardiovascular conditions, hypertension and obesity have emerged as some of the leading health challenges. These diseases, often linked to poor dietary habits, sedentary lifestyles, stress and environmental influences, have a profound impact not only on individuals but also on healthcare systems globally. For the first time, a theme based on lifestyle diseases was chosen for the conference, with two days of deliberations through symposiums, panel discussions and guest lectures.”
The conference brought together more than 1,250 delegates, making it a grand and insightful event. With a record 268 scientific paper presentations and 35 awards, the enthusiasm and engagement of the participants stood out.
Prior to the main sessions, four hands-on workshops were conducted, covering Suturing Skills, Basic Life Support, Decoding ECG, and Laparoscopic Skills. These sessions provided attendees with practical, interactive learning experiences.
Dr Abhijat Sheth also delivered a lecture on “Lifestyle Modifications After Cardiac Surgery.”
Another major highlight was the Dr BB Dikshit Memorial Oration Lecture, delivered by Padma Shri Dr Omesh Bharti, who shared the inspiring story of how a small innovation in rabies vaccine and RIG administration from Himachal Pradesh gained international acclaim—demonstrating that sometimes, less is more.
The event also included the release of the E-Souvenir and the Annual Report of BJGMC & SGH, marking yet another milestone in the institution’s journey. The conference concluded with a Valedictory Function on April 4, celebrating the knowledge shared and the meaningful connections made throughout the event.
