Bizarre! People Rush To Loot Bear Bottles After Loaded Truck Turns Turtle In MP’s Jabalpur (WATCH) | FP Photo

Jabalpur/Katni: In a bizarre turn of events, people rushed to loot beer bottles after a truck loaded with hundreds of liquor cartons overturned near in Madhya Pradesh’s Katni district on Monday.

The injured driver and cleaner were trapped in the truck, however, the passersby were busy grabbing the bottles and escaping, instead of helping them.

The entire incident, which occurred on a national highway near Katni’s Chapara village, was recorded in a video and has gone viral on social media.

According to information, the truck was en route from Jabalpur to Bhopal’s Hazaribagh. Eyewitnesses say that the truck overturned after a buffalo suddenly came in front of it. In an attempt to save the animal, the driver lost control, and the vehicle toppled off the road. 

The accident led to chaos on the road, as instead of helping the injured driver and cleaner, passersby and locals started looting the beer bottles scattered on the road.

Greed before humanity?

Due to the extreme summer heat, with temperatures touching 40 degrees Celsius, people were already distressed. When the accident happened and beer bottles spilled all over the road, the situation quickly turned into a free-for-all.

Though some people initially came forward to help the driver and cleaner trapped inside the truck, once they saw the truck was carrying alcohol, the scene quickly changed.

People began picking up bottles and running away. Some carried beer in bags, while others lifted crates on their shoulders and fled. Videos of the incident, showing dozens of people looting bottles, are now going viral on social media.

Loss of lakhs estimated

As soon as police received the information, a team led by Salimnabad Police Station In-charge Akhilesh Dahiya rushed to the spot. The injured driver and cleaner were sent to Katni District Hospital for treatment. Meanwhile, the excise department also arrived to secure the remaining alcohol. However, by then, a significant amount had already been taken by locals.

The liquor contractor claims that the loss caused by the accident and the looting is in lakhs of rupees. Police have registered a case against unknown persons and are working to identify suspects using the viral videos. Authorities have appealed to the public to help identify the people seen in the footage so legal action can be taken.
