The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Mumbai office, operating under the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, celebrated its 78th Foundation Day with grandeur at the Bharat Ratnam Mega CFC, SEEPZ, Andheri East, Mumbai. The event marked another milestone in BIS’s ongoing mission to strengthen the nation’s quality ecosystem and contribute to the economy by ensuring the availability of safe, reliable, and high-quality goods, while also promoting environmental sustainability and minimizing consumer health hazards.
The distinguished guests of honor included Dr. Sachin D. Kore, Director of Veermata Jijabai Technological Institute, Mumbai; Smt. Shraddha Rane, Secretary General, Indian Chemical Council; and Dr. Narendra Digambar Gangal, Vice President of QA, TQM, and Analytical Research at NOCIL Ltd. Sanjay Goswami, Deputy Director General (Western Region), Pinaki Gupta, Scientist-E & Head (Mumbai Branch Office–I), ; Smt. Prem Sajani Patanala, Scientist-E & Head (Mumbai Branch Office–II), Anil Kapri, Scientist-E & Head (Western Regional Laboratory) were present from BIS.
During the celebration, Sanjay Goswami highlighted key initiatives undertaken by BIS to promote standardization and engage stakeholders through innovative programs such as Standardization Cells, Manak Manthan, Manak Samvaad, Exposure Visits, and Capsule Courses. He also announced India’s upcoming hosting of the IEC meeting, emphasizing BIS’s growing influence in the global standards landscape.
Dr. Sachin Kore shed light on the pivotal role BIS can play in advancing 3D printing and additive manufacturing technologies, particularly in product development and jewelry-making industries. Smt. Shraddha Rane, Secretary General, Indian Chemical Council; highlighted the importance of BIS and its role in maintaining quality and sustainability. Dr. Narendra Gangal addressed the pressing issue of climate change and underscored BIS’s role in fostering sustainable practices to mitigate its impact.Subsequently, BIS delivered insightful presentations covering its 78-year journey, management system certification, the future of standardization, and the role of industries in this process.
A special facilitation ceremony recognized the All-India First Licensees for their exemplary efforts in adhering to BIS’s stringent quality standards, setting benchmarks for excellence in their respective industries.
As part of the ongoing celebrations, BIS is hosting a Standard Carnival on January 8, 2025, at the BIS CETTM Complex in Hiranandani Gardens, Powai, Mumbai. The event will feature creative displays from students and industries, with stalls showcasing ISI-marked products and highlighting their contribution to strengthening India’s Quality Ecosystem.
