Bhopal’s National Institute of High Security Animal Diseases (NISHAD) report has confirmed H5N1 Avian Flu (Bird Flu) in the carcasses of Demoiselle Cranes found dead in Jaisalmer. In the meantime the death toll of migratory birds in Jaisalmer has reached to 28 with 14 found dead in Bankalsar village of Mohangarh area on Friday morning itself.
According to the farm owner, on Friday morning a flock of migratory birds flying over the farm suddenly started falling on the ground. A total of 14 birds found dead on the field. The Quick Response Teams of forest and animal husbandry department have reached the spot and collect the dead bodies.
The deaths of migratory birds commonly known as Kurjan among the locals, has become a matter of concern in the district and teams of Forest Department and Animal Husbandry Department are on alert.
Joint Director of Animal Husbandry Department, Umesh Vragatiwar said 14 migratory birds were found dead in
Degrai Oran area of the district on different dates. Now, 14 more have killed on Friday.
“The bodies of the dead birds have been buried with all precautionary measures while along with QRT, field officers of Veterinary Hospital, Medical Department, Forest Department and Revenue Department have been put on high alert,” said the officer.
The area where birds were found dead near Lunari and Lakhmana ponds in Degrai Oran area of Devi Kot town, 55 km from Jaisalmer, has been declared an infected hotspot by the administration so that no animal or human goes to that area.
Although until now this disease has been confirmed only in the migratory birds, precautions are being taken to ensure that this disease does not spread to other birds, animals and humans. Along with this, instructions have been given not to use the water of the ponds where dead birds found.
