Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): A female doctor was attacked by a mentally challenged patient at Gandhi Medical College (GMC), Bhopal, on Monday night. The incident occurred while she was on night duty in the emergency department.
The bipolar disorder patient barged into the doctor’s office and allegedly pulled her hair. When the doctor complained to the patient’s acquaintance, they too started misbehaving with her.
JUDA asks for stepped-up security
After the incident, JUDA (Junior Doctors Association) asked the hospital administration to increase the security of the doctors. The Association also demanded that only one family member should be allowed to attend the patient.
According to information, a female doctor in the absence of patients at an emergency department took a nap inside her office, when suddenly a female suffering from bipolar disorder barged in and attacked her. She started screaming and pulling the doctor’s hair.
The doctor woke up in panic, which scared away the patient, and she left the room. The doctor went out and enquired about the patient’s behavior with the acquaintance. Irked, the patient’s relative started misbehaving with the doctor.
When JUDA came to know about this incident, they asked the doctors to increase the security of doctors, specifically female doctors. Moreover, they demanded the administration that only one attendant should be allowed with a patient and one staff member should be present with the patient when they are being examined by the doctor.
Letter submitted to Dean
The Association also submitted a letter to the Dean of the hospital, Dr. Kavita N. Singh regarding the matter and mentioned that the hospital rules should be followed strictly so that such incidents couldn’t happen again.
