Florida: On March 18, 1965, Soviet cosmonaut Alexei Arkhipovich Leonov became the first person to do a spacewalk by stepping out of the Leonov capsule. He remained outside the spacecraft for 12 minutes and 9 seconds. With this, the Voskhod-2 mission was successful. After 59 years, billionaire Jared Isaacman has created history. He did his first private spacewalk on Thursday. After his nearly 10-minute spacewalk, Sarah Giles did a spacewalk. Earlier, the SpaceX Polaris Dawn mission was launched from Kennedy Space Center in Florida on Tuesday.

Elon Musk’s company SpaceX and Shift4Payments CEO Jared Isaacman launched the first mission Polaris Dawn in partnership. His spacewalk was easy and quick. Usually, astronauts’ spacewalks at the International Space Station last seven to eight hours. The spacewalk of this mission lasted 1 hour 46 minutes. After the spacewalk, Isaacman said, ‘Let’s go back home.. we have a lot of work to do.. but yes.. the world looks perfect from here..’

Sarah Giles replaced Isaacman after he was out for about 10 minutes. A commercial spacewalk was the centerpiece of the five-day mission.

This spacewalking test involved more stretching than walking. Former US Air Force pilot Scott Poteet and SpaceX engineer Anna Menon were overseeing the mission inside. They remained strapped to their seats the entire time. The mission was planned minute-by-minute. But, Isaacman was forced to open the lid of the SpaceX capsule.

SpaceX commentator Kate Tice said the entire incident happened in the blink of an eye. NASA Administrator Bill Nelson said today’s success would take the commercial space industry to new heights. SpaceX founder and CEO Elon Musk said his goal is to unlock the mysteries of the universe. Before Thursday, 263 people from 12 countries had performed spacewalks. The main objectives of this mission include space communications in high-altitude orbit as well as health research.
