In order to strengthen rail traffic in Bihar, the state government has planned to construct two new railway lines. These new railway lines include Laheriyasarai-Saharsa and Darbhanga-Muzaffarpur rail route. The completion of these projects will improve the speed of traffic in the state and passengers will get more facilities. Apart from this, the late latify of passenger trains will also decrease, so that long distance trains will be able to reach the destination at their scheduled time.

Laheriyasarai-Saharsa DPR and construction process of new railway line

In March 2024, a DPR of Rs 2680 crore was sent to the Railway Board from Samastipur DRM office for the construction of a new rail line between Laheriyasarai to Saharsa. However, the Railway Board demanded some deduction and then asked to prepare the new DPR. Subsequently, according to the new budget, a revised DPR of Rs 2144 crore was prepared by cutting 20 percent. The project is currently in the final stages. Confirming this, Chief Executive Engineer of Samastipur division Vinod Kumar said that instructions have been given to reduce the DPR and the consultant agency has started the work of preparing the DPR afresh.

It is expected that by January 2025, the new DPR will be ready and sent to the Railway Board. The first DPR mentioned the need to build 12 large bridges, 78 small bridges, three road overbridges and 85 underpasses to build a 98.250 km long rail line. This number has been changed in the new DPR, and now the number of large bridges is 10, the number of small bridges 65 and the number of road overbridges and underpasses has also been reduced.

Survey report and DPR of Darbhanga-Muzaffarpur new railway line

On the other hand, the survey work of the 67.4 km long new railway line between Darbhanga to Muzaffarpur has been completed. The order to make DPR from the Railway Board for this railway project is being awaited. The responsibility of this survey was entrusted to a private agency of Roorkee. The route of this new railway line will go via Laheriyasarai station to Pandasarai, Dilahi, Kolhanta Patori, Madhopur Pandoul, Ghosahma, Vidyaroj, Silaot, Narayanpur Anant to Muzaffarpur Junction.

In the survey report, it is proposed to build 10 new stations on this route, which will facilitate traffic in this area. The total cost of the project is Rs 2378 crore, which will include 27 crossings and 6 railway bridges.
