Big step towards solid waste management in Bihar, state’s first solid waste management cluster will be made in Patna

The Bihar government has taken an important and commendable initiative in the capital Patna. The state’s first solid waste management cluster will be established in Ramchak Bairia. This will not only promote hygiene, but can also prove to be a milestone in the field of environmental protection and energy production.

The minister said that this project is being implemented as a model project and after success it will be implemented in other cities as well.

Electricity, fertilizer and biogas will be made from waste

This project will take the processing of solid waste to a new level. According to this:

  • 15 MW power plant will be set up
  • 100 tonnes per day bio-conditionation plant will be set up
  • MRF and RDF plant of 250 ton/day capacity
  • A separate MRF plant of 50 ton/day will also be set up
  • 700 ton/day compost plant will be set up
  • 325 tonne/day landfill facility will be developed and operated

  11. Naubatpur
  12. Rebellion

Need to improve solid waste processing

At present, the percentage of waste processing in the municipal bodies of the state is very low. Keeping this in mind, the state government had sent a special proposal to the central government for the above areas.

This is the first time in the country that the Central Government is providing financial assistance to a state for a solid waste management project under the VIITA GAP Funding Scheme.
