Crude oil prices are always a victim of ups and downs in the international market. Sometimes prices touch the sky and sometimes give some relief. But on 2 April 2025, the prices of petrol and diesel have been kept stable in the Indian market. Today there is no change of any kind. However, there is a state where diesel prices have increased – Karnataka.
Diesel 2 rupees expensive in Karnataka
The Government of Karnataka has today increased the price of diesel by ₹ 2 per liter. That is, if you are going to fill diesel in Bengaluru, then now you will have to pay ₹ 91.02 per liter. This increase has been made due to changes in tax imposed by the state government. At the same time, no such increase has been made in the rest of the country.
Prices stable in the rest of the states
Petrol and diesel prices in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, and other major cities are prevalent. That is, there is relief to the general public at the moment that at least the changing prices are not being faced. The decision to keep fuel prices stable across the country is relaxed for consumers, especially when inflation is constantly increasing.
What are today’s rates in your city?
It is also important to know what is the price of petrol and diesel in your city and how much will it cost to make your car tank full. Below is the list of today’s rates of major cities of the country:
City | Petrol (₹/liter) | Diesel (₹/liter) |

When was the change in the last time?
If we talk about the previous amendment, the prices of petrol and diesel were last increased by ₹ 2 per liter in March 2023. Since then, no major relief has been seen. While the prices of crude oil have been fluctuating in the international market, it did not affect the domestic rates.
Who decides the prices of petrol and diesel?
Petrol and diesel prices in India decide government oil companies. Prominent names are – Hindustan Petroleum (HPCL), Indian Oil (IOCL) and Bharat Petroleum (BPCL). These companies update daily fuel prices based on the price of crude oil in the international market, dollar-rupa exchange rate, refining cost, taxation and distribution costs.
These new prices are applied every morning at 6 am and they can be checked through the companies’ website or mobile apps.
