A historical step has been taken to empower railway infrastructure in Madhya Pradesh. The Indore-Manmad new railway line project, which was pending for years, is now taking shape on the ground. This project will not only improve traffic facilities in the state, but will also change the state’s picture by establishing direct contact with economic development, employment and rural areas.
Key features of the project
- The distance from Indore to Manmad will now be reduced from 830 km to 568 km.
- There will be a total of 34 stations on this rail route, out of which 30 new stations will be built and 4 will be already present.
- Under the project, land of about 77 villages of three districts of Madhya Pradesh – Dhar, Khargone and Barwani is being acquired.
- The land of 18 villages of Mhow tehsil has been identified for acquisition.
1,000 villages and 30 lakh people will get direct rail connectivity
The biggest advantage of this project will be that about 1,000 villages and 30 lakh people will be directly connected to the rail network.
- This railway line will pass through tribal areas, where there was no rail connectivity till now.
- On completion of the project, 16 pair passenger trains will operate.
- According to initial estimates, every year 5 million passengers will travel on this route.
- Railways are expected to receive an annual revenue of more than Rs 900 crore from it.
Land acquisition process intensifies
The Ministry of Railways started the process of land acquisition by issuing Gazette notification in January 2024.
- Land acquisition has been reported for railway projects in Khedi, Chainpura, Kamadpur, Khudalpura, Kuradakhedi, Ahilyapur, Nanded, Jamli, Kelod, Berchha, Gawli Palasia, Ashapura, Malandi, Kodaria, Borkhedi, Chowradia, New Gurudia and Mhow Cantonement sector.
- Along with this, the process of land acquisition is also going on in Dhule and Shindkheda areas of Maharashtra.
- The Ministry of Railways has appointed a special officer for this work.
Proposed railway station and route
Under this project, the railway line will start from Mhow and go to Dharampuri, Okri, Rajpur, Sendhwa, Sirpur, Shikhandi, Dhule, Malegaon and finally Manmad.
The major new stations that will be built in Madhya Pradesh include:
- Calod, Kamadpur, Jhadi Baroda, Sarai Talab, Neemgarh, Chiktya Bad, Gyaspurkheri, Kotha, Jarwah, Ajandi, Baghadi, Kusmari, Julwania, Sal Kalan, Vanihar, Bawadar and Malwa stations.
