The Income Tax Department has recently issued orders for tax demand and fine on some big companies in India, including technical service provider Bosch Limited, Private Sector Yes Bank and major airline IndiGo. These orders have not only surprised companies but have also affected investors and markets. Let’s know the full story of all three cases –
Notice of more than Rs 20 crore to Bosch Limited
A heavy-taxing notice has been issued by the Income Tax Department for the Assessment Year 2022-2023 to the leading company Bosch Limited in Technology and Services Sector. The company received this tax assessment notice on 28 March 2025, in which the department has added a tax demand of ₹ 18.36 crore and the total demand of ₹ 20 crore by adding an interest of ₹ 1.80 crore.
The company said in the information given to the stock market that this notice has been passed by the evaluation unit of the department. Bosch Limited has also clarified that she is working towards appealing against this order and the final amount of fine has not been fixed yet.
Yes Bank has a tax demand notice of ₹ 2,209 crore
Yes Bank received the biggest shock from the Income Tax Department when it received a tax demand notice of ₹ 2,209.17 crore. Interest amount is also included in this notice. The bank said that it received this notice despite getting the refund after the tax return filed earlier on 30 September 2021.
A new twist in the case came when in April 2023, the Income Tax Department decided to reopen the case. After that, on March 28, the National Faceless Assessment Unit passed the revaluation order. Yes Bank says that it is planning to legally challenge the order and believes that it will not have any negative impact on the financial situation of the bank.
Indigo fined ₹ 944 crore
The country’s largest domestic airline company IndiGo, which has an original company Interglobe Aviation, has also been fined by the Income Tax Department of Rs 944.20 crore. The company received this order on Saturday, and in response, IndiGo on Sunday informed the stock exchange, saying the fine was completely inappropriate and wrong.
IndiGo says that it is in the process of challenging this order. The fine is related to the assessment year 2021-22 and has passed it by the Assessment Unit of the Income Tax Department. The company also said that it will protect its interests by using all statutory options.
What does all this say?
It is clear from these three cases that the Income Tax Department is now seriously investigating the old tax records of companies and is taking a tough stance on any disturbance. While veterans like Bosch and Yes Bank are preparing for the appeal against this order, IndiGo has directly rejected the fine.
What will be the final culmination of these cases, it will tell the time to come, but one thing is definitely clear – no one is in the mood to give concession in tax cases now.
