Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Outsourced ward boys and technicians of Hamidia Hospital shunned their work during morning hours affecting medical services at the government-run facility, however, the striking staff resumed their duty later in the day.

The outsourced staffers struck their work raising slogan as a mark of protest over non-payment of their last three-month salaries. The striking staffers, however, called off their strike after assurance from Gandhi Medical College (GMC) administration that their salary will be deposited in their account by Saturday.

During the morning hours, the patients’ attendants were seen pulling stretchers on hospital premises. Besides, the patients who had come to undergo health tests had to face hardship as technicians had shunned their work. The doctors said that because of the strike of these outsourced staffers, who number around 700, all work related to sanitation, lab testing gets affected.

GMC administration should ensure regular payment of their salaries as they get paltry amounts like Rs 10,000-Rs 12,000 per month, the doctors added. Nearly a week back, the outsourced employees had gone on a strike over the same issue. They were given assurance for clearing their salaries, however, when their salaries were not disbursed, they again went on strike on Tuesday morning.
