Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Spa and massage centres should have different sections for men and women and should not be inter-connected. Besides, there should be separate changing room and washrooms for them. These are some of the guidelines issued for such centres being run under Misrod, Bag Sewania and Katara Hills police station.

The guidelines have been issued to ensure that no flesh trade or other illegal activities are conducted at spa and massage centres, said ACP, Misrod, Rajnish Kashyap. Earlier, 35 spa and massage centres were identified that were functional in these three areas.

In December 2024, police had carried out raids at seven spa centres in Zone-2 and detained over 50 men and women who were found there in compromising positions. ACP Kashyap said police would carry out regular inspections of spa and massage centres to ensure that the guidelines were followed. Police officials said that entrance and reception should have CCTV cameras and their recordings should be kept for a month.

The clients at spa centres should produce their identification documents, contact number and details. The centres should follow the labour laws and their staff should wear their identity cards while at work. Spa centres should display their licence number, working hours and other details along with helpline numbers 1091 and 108.

What else is needed?

Any sexual activity will be completely restricted at spa and massage centres. Every staff engaged in massage or wellness etc should have degree, diploma, certificate in physiotherapy or acupressure. The operators should provide details of their staff at police station for verification and should ensure at the time of their appointment that they do not have cases of immoral trafficking, POCSO or other similar offences against them.
