Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Aimed at training police for controlling violent crowd and responding in adverse situations, the police on Wednesday conducted riot mock drill (balwa mock drill) at Nehru Nagar police lines ahead the festivals like Holika Dahan, Rang Panchamai, Eid-ul-Fitr, Navratra. About 450 police personnel including ACPs, TIs, traffic cops participated in the training under the guidance police commissioner Harinarayanchari Mishra.

Mishra said police personnel played role of rioters and cops during the drill, which was organised for training purposes and examination of capabilities of the force. Such drills are being organised on regular basis to train force for better law enforcement, crowd management and maintaining law and order while keeping themselves safe in adverse situations, he added.

Teams formed

For mock drill, the police formed tear gas team, lathi team, rifle team, medical team, water cannon team. Each team was assigned responsibilities and was deployed at a place where a group of people (a team of cops acting as protestors) were staging agitation. Police force tried to pacify protesters but they turned violent.

Police issued warning when they pelted stones at them and then fired tear gas shells. Police issued warning through announcement and resorted to cane charge and then fired shots when the protesters refused to budge.
