Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): In a major breakthrough, Bag Sewania police on Thursday arrested three members of a notorious burglary gang responsible for a series of thefts in the city. Among the arrested were two adults and a minor. Police recovered stolen jewellery worth Rs 8 lakh from the gang, which had been operating in different areas of the city. One of the burglars, Dilip Bhuria (26), was found to have fled to Gujarat after committing thefts to evade capture.
DCP Zone-2 Sanjay Agarwal said that the case was opened after a complaint was lodged by Mayank Mishra, a resident of Arvind Vihar Colony, who reported that burglars had broken into his home while he was away in Rewa. The thieves had forced open the main door and stolen valuables from inside.
After receiving the complaint, a police team led by ACP Rajnish Kashyap and Inspector Amit Soni initiated an investigation. They began by scanning CCTV footage from the vicinity, which showed three suspects riding a two-wheeler near Mishra’s residence around the time of the burglary. The police were able to identify one of the suspects as Dilip Bhuria, a known criminal with a past record. Bhuria had been on the watchlist of Kamla Nagar police and had a history of theft-related crimes.
Upon discovering that Bhuria had fled to Surat, a police team was sent to Gujarat, where they successfully apprehended him. During interrogation, Bhuria admitted to being involved in several thefts, committing crimes with his accomplice Ravi Mavi (18) and a minor boy. Ravi Mavi was arrested, and the minor was taken into custody following legal protocols.
Bhuria revealed that the gang would carry out reconnaissance in residential colonies during the daytime, targeting homes while the owners were away. Bhuriaused to act as a lookout outside, while Mavi and the minor would break into the homes and steal valuables. Bhuria has a total of eight criminal cases registered against him, including theft and a POCSO case, at various police stations, including Kamla Nagar, Chuna Bhatti, Habibganj and Bag Sewania. Ravi Mavi, also a resident of Chuna Bhatti, has two cases against him for similar offences.
