Google Map: While going to an unknown place, we used to ask the local people for directions while sipping tea, but with the help of technology, now people are traveling with the help of Google Map. This facility is very good and useful, but there is a limit to the technology and sometimes it leads to loss of life or serious problems. Once again Google Map has cheated. A police team which was going to conduct raids in Assam was brought to Nagaland with the help of Google Map. During this time most of the policemen were in civil dress. Therefore, when people saw the police team with modern weapons, they considered them scoundrels and attacked them and took them hostage.

A 16-member Assam Police team inadvertently reached Nagaland’s Mokokchung district while following the route shown by Google Maps during a raid, an official said on Wednesday. A senior Assam Police official said, ‘The incident took place on Tuesday night when a team of Jorhat district police was conducting a raid to nab an accused.’
People of Nagaland took Assam Police hostage
The officer further said, ‘It was a tea plantation area, which is shown on Google Maps in Assam. However, this area actually bordered Nagaland. A glitch on the GPS forced the team to go deep into Nagaland in search of the culprit. The local people mistook the Assam Police team for some miscreants armed with modern weapons and detained them and beat them up. Of the 16 police personnel, only three were in uniform and the rest were in plain clothes. So the local people became suspicious and attacked the team. A policeman was injured in this attack.
On receiving information about the adverse situation in Nagaland, Jorhat Police immediately contacted Mokokchung Police Officer. After this he sent a team to the spot to rescue the Assam Police personnel. The local people then realized that it was the real Assam Police team and then released the five members, including the injured personnel. However, they kept 11 people hostage overnight and released them in the morning.
