Bharat Vikas Parishad Disability Center in Pune to Celebrate 25th Anniversary with Free Prosthetic Camp on December 16 |
The Bharat Vikas Parishad Disability Center in Pune has been helping people with disabilities for 25 years. To celebrate this milestone, the center is organizing a free disability camp in Pune on December 16.
In a press conference held at Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, the center head Vinay Khatavkar said that during the event, over 1,000 people with disabilities will receive advanced prosthetic hands and legs at no cost.
Bharat Vikas Parishad is a statewide organization that works selflessly in the areas of service and culture. The center is part of a nationwide project providing artificial limbs to people with disabilities. Among 13 disability centers in India, Pune’s center has been offering permanent support to people for 25 years.
Details about the camp
Previously, the center provided Jaipur Foot prosthetics to those who lost their hands or legs. With new technology, more advanced modular prosthetics and caliper legs are now available. These modern prosthetics improve the lives of people with disabilities but are more expensive than Jaipur Foot and not affordable for everyone. To address this, the Pune center has been providing these advanced prosthetics free of charge for the past eight years, helping over 5,000 people so far.
On December 16th at 3 PM, the center will host a free disability camp during its 25th-anniversary celebration. Dr. Mohan Bhagwat, head of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), will attend the event. The camp will take place at Dhole Patil College, near EON IT Park, Kharadi, Pune.
The center holds a Guinness World Record for giving free prosthetics to 710 people in a single camp. This year, they aim to break their own record, Khatavkar said.
People with disabilities are encouraged to register in advance by calling 75558356, 9422797106, or 8551064204.
