Team India skipper Rohit Sharma said that it was better to lose toss after Steve Smith won the coin flip in the Champions Trophy semi-final in Dubai. Speaking to Ravi Shastri on losing the toss Rohit said, “I was prepared to do both (batting and bowling). When you’re confused, it’s better to lose the toss. The pitch keeps changing its nature. You have to play good cricket. We’ve played good cricket in all three games and that’s what we’ll try to do. We want to continue from where we left. Now that we are bowling first, we have to bowl well and restrict them to as low as possible.”
The streak started in the 2023 World Cup final when Pat Cummins won the toss and decided to bowl first in a match-changing decision at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Among the 14 tosses India have lost, 11 matches under Rohit led the team. The Men in Blue also lost all three tosses under KL Rahul’s captaincy in an ODI series against South Africa in December 2023.
