In a shocking incident, a techie from Mumbai allegedly murdered his wife, stuffed her body in a suitcase, and fled to Pune. The accused, identified as Rakesh Khedkar(27), was arrested by the Bengaluru police near Pune after being tracked using call detail records (CDR).
According to the police, Rakesh murdered his wife, Gauri Anil Sambekar (32), on March 26, following a heated argument. Rakesh, who had been living with Gauri in Doddakannahalli under the Hulimavu police station limits for the past two months, allegedly stabbed her in the stomach and slit her throat. After killing her, he packed her body in a suitcase and left it in the bathroom before fleeing.
Attempted suicide
Rakesh then traveled to Pune via the Pune-Satara highway. During his journey, he consumed a poisonous substance, believed to be used to kill cockroaches, in an apparent suicide attempt. He lost consciousness and was found lying unconscious in his car by local residents, who immediately alerted the police.
The Satara police detained him, identified him, and admitted him to Bharti Vidyapeeth Hospital around 4 am. He was later transferred to Sassoon Hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment. His condition is stable.
Informed her parents after killing her
The crime came to light when Rakesh reportedly informed his wife’s parents about the murder. Gauri, a Mass Media and Communication graduate, was unemployed. Rakesh worked as a project manager at Hitachi.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (South East), Sarah Fathima, confirmed that the police received a call about the body on March 26 at around 5:30 pm. When they arrived at the scene, they discovered the suitcase with Gauri’s body in the bathroom. The police used CDR to track Rakesh’s location, leading to his arrest.
Further investigation is ongoing.
