Fugitive businessman Mehul Choksi faced a legal setback on Tuesday (April 22) as a Belgian court denied his bail plea. Choksi was arrested in Antwerp after Indian investigative agencies formally requested his extradition.
Choksi is a key accused in the ₹13,500-crore Punjab National Bank (PNB) loan fraud case and has been evading Indian authorities for years. A three-judge bench reviewed the arguments before ruling against his bail, according to reports.
India recently confirmed that it is actively coordinating with Belgian authorities to secure Choksi’s extradition and bring him back to face trial.
