Team India is currently on West Indies tour. The 2-match Test series between India and West Indies is starting from 12th July. After this, 3 ODIs and 5 T20 matches will be played between the two countries. Meanwhile, BCCI has announced 2 more series. In which the team has to play 8 matches against Australia and 3 against Afgh.stan. 3 matches will be played before the ODI World Cup to be held in October-November. It is considered important for the preparation of the tournament. The Indian team has not been able to win the World Cup title since 2011.
BCCI Secretary Jai Shah told the media after the Apex Council meeting that the 3-match ODI series against Australia will be played in September. After the ODI World Cup, a 5-match T20 series will also be played between the two countries. Shah also said that a 3-match ODI series will be played against Afgh.stan in January. The series was earlier scheduled to be played in June 2023, but due to the busy schedule, both the boards agreed to push the series.
Different captains in T20 and ODI
BCCI has appointed separate captains for T20 and ODIs. Rohit Sharma is handling the command of the ODI team while Hardik Pandya is handling the command of the T20 team. The T20 World Cup will be played jointly in West Indies and America in June next year. In such a situation, after the ODI World Cup, the Indian team will start preparing for the T20 World Cup. Pandya has already been made the captain for the 5-match T20I series against the West Indies.
Meanwhile, the board is going to make a policy regarding retired players, so that they can play in foreign leagues. BCCI Secretary Jay Shah said that we are going to make a policy to stop this practice of pre-determined retirement. The officers will prepare the policy and send it for approval.
