New Delhi : Politics in India has become hot due to the Waqf Board Amendment Bill. Although it has been made a law, the Supreme Court has imposed an interim prohibition on two sections of the revised Waqf Board Act. Meanwhile, Pakistan criticized the Waqf Amendment Act. India has reprimanded Pakistan on this. India has responded strongly to Pakistan and advised it to peep into its firn. India’s Foreign Ministry has said that Pakistan has no right to intervene in India’s internal affairs.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Randhir Jaiswal has completely rejected Pakistan’s baseless criticism of India’s Waqf Amendment Act and said that Pakistan should look at its history of atrocities on minorities in their country before talking about minority rights.

What did Pakistan really say?

Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Shafkat Ali Khan criticized the major changes made by India in the Waqf Act. He had said that this law violates the religious and economic rights of Muslims in India. He accused India that this law is a symbol of increasing majority in India. He said that there is a possibility that the Muslim community will be marginalized. After this criticism, India has clarified its position by issuing a strong statement to Pakistan.

What is the Waqf Amendment Act?

The Waqf (Amendment) Act amends the Waqf Act of 1955. Its purpose is to simplify the management and administration of Waqf properties across the country. Its objective is to ensure proper and transparent management of the assets donated by the Muslim community for religious or charitable objectives.

The bill was introduced in Parliament last year, but had to face strict opposition. As a result, the bill was sent to the Joint Parliamentary Committee. Later this year, after deliberations between the members of the ruling party and the opposition, the bill was again introduced in the Lok Sabha on 2 April 2025 and then on 3 April in the Rajya Sabha. After the signature of President Draupadi Murmu, it was also converted into law. However, petitions were filed against this in the Supreme Court from all over the country including the Congress party. All these petitions were heard simultaneously in the Supreme Court. Today i.e. on 17 April 2025, the Supreme Court has imposed an interim stay on the Waqf Board Amendment Bill.
