Recently, data revealed shows that 20,000 metric tonnes of honey has been produced in the country. Due to this, beekeepers have earned about Rs 325 crore. Also, in FY 2024-25, beekeepers associated with KVIC have exported honey worth about Rs 25 crore abroad.

Bee Day is celebrated on 20 May all over the world. On this occasion, Sweet Revolution Festival was organized in KVIC (KVIC and Village Industries Commission). At the same time, it came to light that how beekeeping is proving beneficial for Indians and the way of great success is becoming.
Beekeeping benefits
Under KVIC’s Honey Mission, 20,000 metric tonnes of honey has been produced so far. Due to which beekeepers have earned Rs 325 crore. Also, under the “Honey Mission” program, more than 2 lakh bee boxes and honey colonies have been distributed across the country to increase beekeeping in the country.
‘Sweet Revolution’ has changed the lives of beekeepers and farmers. On this occasion, the KVIC president threw light on the achievements of Honey Mission and said that KVIC has so far distributed 2,29,409 bee boxes and honey colonies across the country, which has produced about 20,000 metric tonnes of honey. Due to this, beekeepers have earned about Rs 325 crore. He also informed that in the financial year 2024-25, beekeepers associated with KVIC have exported honey worth about Rs 25 crore abroad.
Youth and women are getting employment
On this occasion, KVIC CEO Rashi said, “Honey Mission is not just a scheme, but it is a livelihood model. Today thousands of youth, women and farmers are getting employment from this mission in rural areas.
The Central Bee Research and Training Institute (CBRTI), Pune was also mentioned in the program. It was told that this institute, established in the year 1962, has given training of modern techniques to more than 50,000 beekeepers till date.
During the program, scientists said that bees are not limited to honey production, but about 75 percent of food crops are prepared through bees, if there are no bees, then 30 percent food crops and 90 percent wild plants can be in crisis.
Which states the highest production
Honey is used throughout the country, but the most beekeeping is in Uttar Pradesh. 22.5 MT of honey production has been done in Uttar Pradesh. With this, UP is at the forefront of beekeeping. After UP is West Bengal, Punjab and Bihar, after Bihar, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir are included in the top 10 states in honey production.
