BCCI’s big step between IPL: Taxes in Team India’s coaching staff

While the eyes of cricket fans are on the field between IPL 2025, the BCCI has taken a big action behind the scenes. The board has decided to remove three important members, making a major reshuffle in Team India’s coaching staff. These include the name of Assistant Coach Abhishek Nair, considered close to Gautam Gambhir.

Which coaches were removed?

According to ‘Dainik Jagran’ report, the BCCI has shown the way out to Assistant Coach Abhishek Nair, Fielding Coach T. Dilip and Strength and Conditioning Coach Soham Desai. Nair was appointed just eight months ago and was considered reliable of Gautam Gambhir. Dileep has been a part of the Indian Fielding Unit for a long time and was counted among the team’s major support staff.

Strict decision after defeat in BGT

The Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia was taken a major decision after the Indian team’s bad batting and shameful defeat in 2024-25. This defeat highlighted the weaknesses of the Indian Red-Ball team, on which the BCCI has now taken direct action. The main objective of this decision is to improve the structure and morale of the team, especially keeping in mind the upcoming domestic Test series against England.

Controversy related to Gambhir’s team

After Gautam Gambhir became the head coach, he included his old colleagues of Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian team. These included Abhishek Nair, Morne Morkel and Ryan Ten Doshet. All of them played a key role in India’s victory in the Champions Trophy 2025, but the equations seem to change after the BGT defeat.

Who will take responsibility?

Ryan Ten Doshet has been temporarily given the responsibility of fielding coach in place of T. Dilip. South African trainer Adrian Le Rocks, working with Punjab Kings as a strength and conditioning coach, is likely to be included in the team. However, new names have not yet been announced instead of Nair and Dileep.

New beginning before England series

Before the five -match Test series against England starting on June 20, BCCI is preparing to connect the new support staff with the team. The board does not want to leave any stone unturned to reinforce the team structure before this high-profile series. The team needs to land on the field with new enthusiasm and better strategy, so that the recent failures can be returned to the victory track.
