The Border Gavaskar Trophy played between India and Australia has taken a tough stand by the Indian Cricket Control Board of Cricket Control after the Indian team’s disappointing performance in 2025. Taking action, the BCCI has made major changes in the team’s associate staff. The BCCI has removed 4 employees from the Indian team. These include an assistant coach, fielding coaches, power and conditioning coaches, and a mass. The biggest thing is that Abhishek Nair, Special Assistant of Head Coach Gautam Gambhir, has also been released. Abhishek Nair was associated with Kolkata Knight Riders.
All these were removed.
When Gambhir became the head coach of Team India, Abhishek Nair was also included in the support staff. Abhishek Nair was employed as an assistant coach in the team. Abhishek Nair was appointed as Assistant Coach of Team India on 24 July 2024. Apart from Abhishek Nair, fielding coach T Dilip Strength and conditioning coach Soham Desai have also been freed from Team India’s support staff. Apart from this, a massage has also been removed. However, the name of this massage has not been revealed yet.
Gambhir dominated the coaching staff.
The tenure as Rahul Dravid’s head coach will end after the 2024 T20 World Cup. After this, Gautam Gambhir was appointed as the new head coach of India on 9 July 2024. The former Indian star player took a large part of his coaching staff from Kolkata Knight Riders, including Abhishek Nair, Ryan Ten Doshet and Morne Morkel (Gambhir was a mentor in Lucknow Super Giants, while Morkel was a bowling coach).
Who is now in Team India’s support staff?
After suffering a shameful defeat in the domestic Test series against New Zealand, India also had to struggle at the Border Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) in Australia. After this, BCCI appointed NCA and India A coach Sitanshu Kotak as batting coaches for white ball earlier this year. Kotak was associated with Team India in the series against England.
