IPL 2025: Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya could not play the first match of IPL 2025 due to a match ban. Mumbai Indians bowled three times in IPL 2024 at a slow over speed. Due to which he was banned a match. However, in the second match of the team, he has once again faced punishment for repeating the same mistake. The umpire stopped him in the middle and punished him. Later, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) imposed a fine of lakhs of rupees on captain Hardik Pandya.

What was the incident?

Mumbai Indians delayed the start of the 20th over in the match played against the Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. For which Mumbai Indians were punished by allowing only four players to be kept out of the circumference of 30 yards while bowling in the final over. Due to which Mumbai Indians suffered losses. Taking cognizance of this, IPL organizers have imposed a fine of Rs 12 lakh on captain Hardik Pandya.

 

Penal on breaking rules

The official media release released by the IPL said, “Captain Hardik Pandya has been fined for bowling at a slow over speed in Mumbai Indians against Gujarat Titans at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. This is the team’s first crime in this season. Therefore, Pandya has been imposed a fine of Rs 12 lakh for a slow over speed under Article (2) of IPL.”

There will be no restriction this time.

It is noteworthy that this time no player will be banned from repeating a slow over speed on any player in the IPL. This time the BCCI has implemented the demerit marks system. In the previous season, the captain of the Delhi Capitals had to be out of an important match due to a slow over-rate. A match was also banned on Hardik Pandya under this crime.
