Amid the financial crunch, La Liga side Barcelona have decided to organise a unique auction to offer their supporters a chance to connect with remarkable moments from the club’s rich history. As part of Memorabilia project, the club will allow fans to acquire various historical items. As per Bein Sports. The biggest attraction of the auction is Lionel Messi’s locker.
The locker will be auctioned with a starting price of 3 crore ($350,000). Besides Messi, the lockers of other former Barcelona players like Ronaldinho, Gerard Pique and Neymar will also go under the hammer. Along with lockers special items such as penalty spots and corner flags will be available at the auction.
What is the Memorabilia project?
At the start of last season the Club launched the Memorabilia project, placing objects on sale of great historical value to Barça fans. Fans and members were able to purchase seats from Spotify Camp Nou in three different designs at various prices. The original pitch at Spotify Camp Nou was also placed on sale in three different formats as well as the nets from both goals, numbered and placed in a wooden frame.
Furthermore, a collection of ethical and sustainable diamonds were put for sale, created from the carbon from the pitch of the last game played at Spotify Camp Nou before the redevelopment work against Mallorca on 28 May 2023.
Spanish media outlet Marca stated that the auction has been organised in collaboration with Goldin and will take place from January 23 to February 13. This move is expected to provide a financial boost to Barcelona.
Financial boost to help Barcelona register Dani Olmo and Pau Victor
The Catalan giants recently attempted to extend the registrations of Dani Olmo and Pau Victor but were unable to do that. The club was unable to register both players on January 1 due to salary cap restrictions.
Having seen their legal attempt rejected by a local court, Barca took the case to the national sports council (CSD). Currently, a provisional permit has been granted by the CSD to register Olmo and Victor until the final ruling on their appeal.
