Pune: In a horrifying incident, a bar owner in Pune’s Bharati Vidyapeeth area was set on fire by a group of men on Wednesday night. This comes just hours after another shocking rape case surfaced in the city.

According to Marathi news portal Saam TV, a group of men was causing a disturbance outside Sanjeevni Bar when the owner stepped in to stop them. Instead of dispersing, the miscreants turned violent, brutally assaulting him. As the situation escalated, they poured petrol on him and set him on fire, leaving him severely injured.

Eyewitnesses quickly intervened and rushed the victim to a nearby hospital, where he is undergoing treatment. His condition remains critical.

According to media reports, the group had been misbehaving outside the bar for some time. When the owner tried to intervene, they attacked him. Later, as he attempted to leave for Sassoon Hospital, the assailants stopped him, set his bike on fire and assaulted him.

The Pune police have launched an investigation and are working to identify and apprehend the culprits. Officials have assured that strict action will be taken against those responsible.

Just hours earlier, A history-sheeter allegedly raped a 26-year-old woman inside a stationary state transport bus at the busy Swargate bus station in the city, and multiple teams are looking for the accused who is on the run, the police said on Wednesday.

Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik directed that all 23 private security guards employed at the bus station should be replaced. He also instructed MSRTC managing director Vivek Bhimanwar to conduct a departmental inquiry and submit a report in seven days, an official statement said.

As the incident created outrage, local Shiv Sena (UBT) workers staged a protest at the Swargate station during which the security office on the premises was vandalised.
