Balaghat (Madhya Pradesh): A bank kiosk operator has filched the money of tribal people from their accounts in Balaghat. The fraud came to light on Thursday night when the Malajkhand police revealed that an operator of a national bank kiosk had ripped off Rs 28.87 lakh from 37 account holders.

A case was registered against the kiosk owner Gaurav Mishra, resident of ward number four in the Mohgaon area of the district. The owner of the house from where the kiosk was operating complained to the police about the fraud. The complainant Ashutosh Singh is a resident of the Mirsod area in Bhopal.

According to the complaint, from March 1, 2017 to February 1, 2024, the bank kiosk operator duped the account holders of Rs 28.87 lakh. The fraud was connected to the financial benefits given to the tribal people by the government.

Fifty account holders went to the collectorate and submitted a memorandum against the kiosk operator. Police station in-charge Narendra Singh Yadav said the accused had been taken into custody and quizzed. Money has been filched from many other accounts and the police have begun an inquiry into the case, he said.
