Government and private banks are closed in many states on Wednesday, 26 February 2025 on the occasion of Mahashivaratri. According to the holiday calendar of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), all bank branches in 22 cities will remain closed. Apart from this, there will be no trading activity in the stock market (BSE and NSE). However, Mahashivaratri is not a national holiday, so banks will remain open in some states.

Which states will remain closed in which states?

According to the RBI calendar, banking services will not be available in the following cities on 26 February:
Ahmedabad, Aizawl, Belapur, Bangalore, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Dehradun, Hyderabad (Andhra Pradesh and Telangana), Jaipur, Jammu, Kanpur, Kochi, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, Raipur, Ranchi, Shimla, Srinagar and Thiruvananthapuram.

At the same time, bank services will be operational in New Delhi, Bihar, Goa, Assam, Tamil Nadu, Tripura, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Nagaland, Bengal and Meghalaya.

Impact on stock market and other financial services

Trading in BSE and NSE will be completely closed. Business will also be suspended in the Kesan Derivative Segment. The Commodity Market will remain closed in the morning session, but will start from 5:00 pm.
