Nagpur Violence: Bangladeshi-Operated Social Media Account Fueled Unrest; Cyber Cell Cracks Down On 144 Provocative Posts | ANI
Mumbai: The police have intensified their crackdown following Monday’s violent clashes in Nagpur, with particular focus on social media activity before and after the incident. The Cyber Cell has identified several provocative and fake posts, leading to the registration of 10 FIRs so far.
About The Findings
Among the most alarming findings, the Cyber Cell has traced a Facebook account operated from Bangladesh, which allegedly posted inflammatory content aimed at inciting large-scale riots. The user reportedly described Monday’s violence as a “small event” and warned of more significant unrest in the future. Security agencies confirmed that the post originated from Bangladesh.

The user issued an ominous message: “Monday’s riots were just a trailer; bigger riots will follow.” The account, confirmed to be operated from Bangladeshi territory, prompted the police to formally request Facebook to block the account.
Cyber Cell Flags 144 Posts & Videos
So far, the Cyber Cell has flagged 144 posts and videos circulating across platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and WhatsApp—spreading fake news, doctored videos, and hate content intended to stoke communal tensions. Notably, multiple posts falsely claimed that two individuals injured during the clashes had died in the hospital. Officials have categorically clarified that these claims are entirely baseless.
Nagpur Police have urged citizens not to believe or circulate unverified content on social media and have warned of strict action against those found spreading misinformation or hate.

Sources revealed that, following the ATS probe, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has now launched a parallel investigation alongside Nagpur Police to explore possible links between the riots and anti-national or banned organizations. The agency is examining whether any foreign entities played a role in orchestrating the violence.

Approximately 200 individuals have already been identified through CCTV footage, and efforts are underway to establish the identities of nearly 1,000 additional suspects. As of now, 90 individuals have been arrested in connection with the violence.
