Contested elections by making fake certificates

Lovely Khatoon is accused of allegedly making fake certificates and contesting elections on behalf of Congress and winning the post of Sarpanch with the support of TMC. Calcutta High Court has sought a report from the Sub Divisional Officer regarding these allegations. Regarding this, Rehana Sultana has filed an application against Lovely Khatoon in the Calcutta High Court.

Rehana lost to Lovely Khatoon

Sultana’s lawyer Amlan Bhaduri said, ‘Applicant Rehana Sultana contested the election as a TMC candidate, but lost to Lovely Khatoon, who contested the election as a Congress and Left alliance candidate. Khatoon joined TMC within a month or two of winning the elections.

What is the allegation against Lovely Khatoon?

Speaking to the media, Amlan Bhaduri said, ‘Lovely Khatoon’s real name is Nasiya Shaikh and she is a Bangladeshi immigrant who entered India illegally without a passport. He also alleged that Aadhaar card was issued in 2015 and birth certificate in 2018 in Khatoon’s name.

Bhaduri further said that Lovely Khatoon created fake documents like her Aadhar card, voter card and OBC status to prove her eligibility for the elections. We also came to know from the local people that Khatoon had gone to the neighboring village. A person was asked his father’s name. Everyone knows that his father’s name is not Sheikh Mustafa but Jamil Biswas, even in the National Population Register there is no mention of Lovely in Sheikh Mustafa’s family.

The lawyer further questioned that when Khatoon is not an Indian citizen then how can she contest the elections. The incident comes at a time when seven people have been arrested for making passports based on forged documents for Bangladeshi citizens who had entered the country illegally.
